The name Radical was actually inspired by a Broadway rock musical, believe it or not. It was Spring Awakening, the eight Tony Award winning musical, including the 2007 winner of Best Musical.
In April of 2008, Katherine participated in a four day school trip to the phenomenal New York City. It was during this trip where she saw two Broadway musicals: Wicked and Spring Awakening, of course.
After her viewing of Spring Awakening, Katherine fell in love... or became obsessed, rather. The originality, the controversial issues, the music... Christ in Gethsemane, it's just too much for words.
But how does this pertain to the term radical? The four young girls of the show discuss and tease each other about their mutual crush on one boy in particular... Melchior Gabor.
"Melchy Gabor...
He's such a RADICAL!
You know what the whisper is? He doesn't believe in anything.
Not in God, not in heaven... Not in a single thing in this world!
They say he's the best in everything:
Latin, Greek, Trigonometry!
The best part is, he doesn't care a whit about any of it!"
...and queue music.
